Find out what you can and can’t store with us.
One of the great things about renting a self storage unit is that you can store a whole host of items, both household and business. However, there are specific types of items that you can’t put into self storage. So if you’re considering renting one of our units, you need to know what you can store before you can move in.
Our unit sizes range from large ground floor 200 sq ft units to smaller 50 sq ft spaces, so you have plenty of options for storage. Based in Melksham, we offer storage to residents across a wide range of areas, such as Trowbridge, Devizes, Corsham and more.
Whether you’re looking to free up space within your home or want to keep your items in a secure space, our units can meet all your needs for storage. This could be for the short term (a couple of weeks) or for the long term (months or years), depending on your circumstances.
Some of the most popular types of items people tend to store can include:
From tables and chairs to sofas and beds. There might come a stage where you need storage for furniture items, perhaps when you’re moving house or redecorating. In some cases, you may wish to keep your furniture in storage for the long term. For example, if you don’t currently have space in your home, but are aware of changes in the future.
Some examples can include:
It could be a good idea to give your furniture a thorough clean before storing, and if possible, disassemble for easy storage.
We also recommend investing in added protection, such as sofa covers, mattress covers, or dust sheets, to keep your goods clean before and after storage. We have a wide range of covers and packing materials available to purchase on site.
With so many gadgets in the home today, there’s always a chance that one could break down. In which case, you may wish to have a spare unit on hand. But not everyone has the space for multiple fridges, dryers and more. That’s where self storage comes in handy.
You can store appliances such as:
We realise many of these items can be heavy and difficult to move. But not to worry – we have a selection of trolleys and pallet trucks available to use on site to help make the process easier.
Our storage units are clean and secure, perfect for keeping spare clothing or footwear safe. Perhaps you have clothes you wish to keep but don’t have the space, or maybe you have clothing you wish to sell and wish to store them temporarily. In either case, we offer a safe and easy solution.
As handy as electrical items can be, there might come a time when you need to store them away. This could be because you’re in between homes, downsizing, or no longer have room for them any more. You can store electrical items, such as:
When it comes to storing electronics, you want to pack them properly to protect your investment. Make sure you have the right supplies, such as bubble wrap, packing paper, and sturdy boxes, to safely store these items. See our packing tips for advice on how to keep your items safe during storage.
When you move into a new home, it’s easy to go on a shopping spree. But you may also want to store some items that you don’t currently need, but might come in handy in the future. In which case, you may wish to keep items in a safe space.
You can store household items, such as:
If you have collectibles or sentimental items that you want to keep safe but don’t have room for in your home, a storage unit is the perfect solution. Whether it’s heirlooms, antiques, artwork, or memorabilia, you can trust that they will be secure in our units.
Do you own a business and need somewhere to store excess inventory, equipment, or documents? Our storage facilities can also accommodate business needs, whether you’re a local business or an independent retailer. You can store items such as:
With our state of the art 24/7 CCTV system, your items are protected at all times during your stay.
While there are many things that you can store in a self storage unit, there are also certain items that are prohibited from being stored due to safety reasons.
You cannot store restricted items including:
If you’re unsure about whether an item can be stored in one of our units, please contact us for clarification.
We aim to keep your items as safe as possible, and while our Melksham store has been designed with security in mind, there are some scenarios that are out of our control, such as a fire or flood. Because of this, we require all customers to have their goods insured before they can store with us.
We offer comprehensive insurance coverage through Basil & Fry specifically tailored for self storage. This policy covers more risks than a standard household insurance policy, and provides additional protection in case of unforeseen events. This policy is separate from a household policy, so any claims will not affect your no claims discount.
Your goods are covered while stored in your storage unit from damage as a result of instances such as fire, burst pipes, storms and more. This cover only applies whilst your items are stored within the unit, and are not protected during loading, unloading, or in transit.
It also does not need to be renewed annually, providing continuous cover. There are no administrative fees for changing your home address or adjusting the insured amount. Learn more about storage insurance
